Chippenham will be taking part in the annual celebration of the Purple Flag programme, which “recognises excellence” across the evening and night-time economy in the UK and Ireland and takes place on the weekend of the 6-8 October.

Awarded its accreditation in 2016, Chippenham is one of almost 70 towns and cities across the country celebrating a “safe and thriving” mix of night-time entertainment.

Purple Flag Chippenham is a local partnership across the town. Cllr Peter Hutton said, “We are very proud to be able to say that Chippenham has Purple Flag status, it is a vital support to the night time economy in Chippenham. We hope local businesses and the local community will get behind the purple flag weekend and show their support for this national campaign.”

Across the weekend Purple Flag Chippenham will be hosting a selection of free activities, highlighting the contribution the evening economy makes to the community and the UK as a whole. On Friday 6 October, businesses are invited to attend the first free Purple Flag Business Breakfast at the Town Hall, from 7:30-9.30am. Guest speaker Revd Les Isaacs OBE, founder of Street Pastors, will share his experience and knowledge across the benefits and importance of partnership working, followed by an opportunity for attendees to network.

You can register for your free Business Breakfast ticket via Eventbrite, searching for “Chippenham Events.” Saturday 7 October will see a selection of activities between 12-7:30 pm aimed at raising awareness and celebrating Purple Flag Chippenham. ‘Pose the Town Purple’ will give visitors an opportunity to win a free night out in Chippenham for 4 people, for their most creative Purple Flag pose at the official photo-booth in the High Street.

Additionally, the Town Hall and Bridge will also be lit-up in “vibrant purple” to celebrate the weekend. Colourful displays and special offers from retailers and traders will take place as well as yarn bombing, free goodies and a performance from Dance Academy, Chippenham.
