Warwick Davis, the actor and television presenter, best known for his sitcom ‘Life’s Too Short’ and big screen appearances in the Leprechaun, Star Wars, and Harry Potter movies, will be the special guest at this year’s Chippenham Christmas Lights Switch On, which kicks off a weekend of celebrations that will be the biggest event of its kind the town has seen.

Taking place Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th November and commencing at 5pm, the Lights Switch On extravaganza will be centred on a stage erected on Town Bridge. This year’s two day event features a packed programme of attractions and entertainment suitable for all the family and includes; an undercover roller disco in The Neeld Hall; bands, choirs and carol singers; a Christmas market in Market Place; land train; artificial snowstorm; and even a Santa Phone for children to put calls in to Santa. More events and attractions are already in place with additional activity being planned.

With the theme of ‘A Fairy Tale Christmas’, the packed programme of events has been organised by the Chippenham Business Improvement District (BID) in association with Chippenham Town Council, as Carolyn Brownell, BID Manager explains, “As this will be the first Christmas in Chippenham under the BID we have been working hard to ensure it’s a real draw for people and something that puts Chippenham on the map. There will be no need to go anywhere else and the intention is to make Christmas 2015 one to remember for both residents and town centre businesses.

“At a time when many other towns and cities are struggling to be enthusiastic about Christmas, we are very excited to be in a position to really celebrate and make it something special for Chippenham.”

Shops and other businesses will be to lighting up their premises with Christmas trees part funded by the BID, while promotion of the event will reach over 600,000 people, with expected numbers attending the event anticipated to increase significantly from previous years to 10,000 people.
