To mark International Women’s Day 2023, which this year takes place on Wednesday 8th March, we’re celebrating some of Swindon and Wiltshire’s most inspiring women.
Through our social media channels, we asked our readers which women in our community inspire them and created a list of 20. The list is printed in our Feb/March magazine and from Wednesday 1st March, every weekday throughout the month we are profiling and championing each of these fantastic women online and via our social feeds.
Today we put the spotlight on Gillian Gray…
Gillian is the Founder of The Sustainable Gray – a sustainability consultancy based in Swindon. After a career in the public sector, working with the sustainable fashion industry, she decided to explore setting up her own business. After being accepted into the first cohort of The Foundry business accelerator (summer 2022) The Sustainable Gray was born.
Gillian has a lifelong obsession with clothes and is an ex-fast fashion addict having seen the catastrophic effects that consumerism, industrial production and textile waste have on the planet. She is committed to finding ways to ensure that people can remain looking stylish and enjoying clothes ethically and sustainably. She works with businesses to develop sustainability strategies and promotes sustainability on an individual level encouraging outfit repeating and shopping in your own wardrobe through her Instagram account.
Her mission is to democratise sustainable fashion so that people and businesses feel empowered to make small changes that collectively contribute to solving the fast fashion problem. Gillian is also a season ticket holder for Swindon Town FC and regularly contributes to the BBC Talk of the Town football podcast. She is also soon to be launching her own podcast.
