To mark International Women’s Day 2023, which this year took place on Wednesday 8th March, we’re celebrating some of Swindon and Wiltshire’s most inspiring women.
Through our social media channels, we asked our readers which women in our community inspire them and created a list of 20. The list is printed in our Feb/March magazine and from Wednesday 1st March, every weekday throughout the month we are profiling and championing each of these fantastic women online and via our social feeds.
Today we put the spotlight on Fiona Da Silva-Adams …
Fiona (Fi) is the Founder and CEO of Revolution Performing Arts (RPA) Ltd and RPA Rapport CIC and has worked in the performing arts industry for over 30 years. RPA was set up in 2007 as a drama group for toddlers and pre-school children and before long, exceptional demand led to its expansion to cover school-aged children. Both companies now reach approximately 400 young people every week. Fi is passionate about changing people’s lives through performing arts using a unique empowering and nurturing approach.
She is also passionate about women’s empowerment and young people’s voices. Using performing arts as a tool to celebrate uniqueness, Fi believes that if young people are given the opportunity to celebrate their unique creativity, they can make a significant difference to future society and its aspirations and outcomes.
As a respected SDASS (Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Service) Ambassador, Fi offers free sessions to any family affected by domestic abuse. As a child survivor herself, she understands the power of performing arts and its therapeutic qualities – helping people to escape from the effects of trauma. Fi regularly speaks at events about her empowering journey and recently spoke at the International Women’s Day #BeatTheSilence Charity event on 8th March.
In addition, Fi is a finalist in the Wiltshire Life Awards for 2023 for best-performing arts provider and regularly posts inspirational lives on her social media feeds in order to inspire others and to help them feel less isolated.
