Celebrating Swindon and Wiltshire’s most inspiring women – 2023

By Nick Batten on 17 March, 2023

To mark International Women’s Day 2023, which this year takes place on Wednesday 8th March, we’re celebrating some of Swindon and Wiltshire’s most inspiring women.

Through our social media channels, we asked our readers which women in our community inspire them and created a list of 20. The list is printed in our Feb/March magazine and from Wednesday 1st March, every weekday throughout the month we are profiling and championing each of these fantastic women online and via our social feeds.

Today we put the spotlight on Kelly Vowles…

Kelly is the Founder of the Pixal-Rose Salon brand which officially began back in 2017. In 2018, she took the leap to open the first official Vegan Founded hair salon in Swindon, which was one of only a handful of vegan salons in the UK at the time.

As a pioneering concept in the hair industry, Kelly quickly gained the attention of national media, featuring on BBC news, Vegan Business Media and also shortlisting for a Green Business award in the Salon Business Awards. Kelly also became a national educator for a leading vegan hair colour brand before leaving to start her own specialist education company, working exclusively with ethical brands.

Fast forward to today and Pixal-Rose Hair Design is growing from strength to strength with Kelly at the helm, getting ready to expand into a dedicated academy, a vegan beauty salon and plans to open a second salon space later in 2023. Kelly has since been featured in further media such as The Times, The Mirror and Enterprise Nation and was also a guest panellist at Vegfest 2022 with a talk on how to get people to buy from Ethical Business.

Pixal-Rose Hair Design has also just been nominated as Swindon’s best hair salon by Total Swindon – a massive achievement for just over four years in business.

Kelly sees herself as an industry leader for ethical salon business and would like to become a spokesperson for more sustainable practices in the hair industry.
