BT’s head of sales for cyber network security in the UK, Mark Williams, has joined Action for Children’s Byte Night South West board ahead of this year’s fundraising campaign launch next month. Mark will co-chair the South West board with KPMG director, Huw Brown.

Since launching in 1998, national fundraiser Byte Night has raised more than £8 million in support Action for Children’s work with disadvantaged children, young people and families. As the country’s largest sponsored sleep out, more than 1,200 people across the UK bedded down last year at simultaneous sleep-outs in Bristol, London, Manchester, Belfast, Cambridge, Reading, Birmingham and Edinburgh, raising over £1m. Organisers are promising Byte Night 2016 will be even bigger this year with sleep-outs also taking place in Cardiff and Newcastle.

Mark, from Bristol, has been with BT for 21 years and brings a wealth of experience and contacts to the board as Byte Night South West begins enters its third year. He said: “I’ve supported a number of charities but felt particularly drawn to Action for Children. This is a charity which supports children and young people who find themselves in situations beyond their control and I felt I had to try and help support that.  I like to make things happen and believe we can bring together a strong team of like-minded individuals to help prevent homelessness amongst disadvantaged children in the UK.”

Looking ahead to his first year on the Byte Night board, Mark added: “I really want to help drive awareness of Action for Children in the South West and ensure we raise more funds to support this great charity.  I also want to bring even more businesses together for this great cause, show the benefits of team working and networking with other like-minded businesses from our region.

“This year we hope to see a number of large number of businesses taking part along with their senior management teams. – come and join us and make a genuine difference to the lives of our children and young people.”
