Bravedog launches mentoring scheme with Swindon College

The Swindon-based design agency, Bravedog, has launched a mentoring scheme with students from Swindon College BA (Hons) Graphic Design course, in partnership with Oxford Brookes University.

For the next 10 months, the firm will be working closely with eleven second-year students, sharing the teams’ knowledge, skills and experiences as well as engaging them in live projects. Additionally, Bravedog will be sharing its work and more about the partnership through its website and social media platforms.

Nick Prescott, managing director for Bravedog, said: “As a former design student at Swindon College, I recognise the wants and needs of the students and also the educational challenges around preparing students for careers in design. The programme provides us with a fantastic opportunity to engage students in commercial projects and give them a real taste of agency life.”

Bravedog is already in talks with some “well-known” brands that are keen to support the scheme, which is being hosted weekly at Workshed, Bravedog’s new home in the Carriageworks, Swindon.

Dave Caton, Swindon College programme leader, remarked that the collaborative mentoring scheme being provided by Bravedog represented an “excellent enhancement” to the employability element of the BA Graphic Design programme.

He added: “It will enable the students to apply their learning in the workplace and help them to develop the soft skills and creative industry awareness often identified as lacking in graduates by employers. We feel that the collaboration will become part of the programme’s ‘unique selling point’ and will help to differentiate it from similar degree level qualifications in the South-West of England.”

The innovative scheme brings together creative agency insight and expertise with education to “add value” to the BA Graphic Design programme curriculum. It will give students the opportunity to experience some of the creative and commercial challenges associated with working with brands and businesses.
