Beard named in Sunday Times ‘top private companies’ list

Swindon construction company, Beard, has been recognised as “one of the UK’s top-performing private companies” in The Sunday Times Grant Thornton Top Track 250, published this October.

This is the first year the family-owned firm, which celebrates its 125th anniversary this year, has entered the league table which ranks Britain’s private mid-market growth companies with the highest sales.

During a turbulent decade for the construction sector, Beard claims it has consistently “bucked industry trends” and delivered strong year-on-year growth. Under the leadership of Mark Beard, who became company chairman last year, the firm has grown from a small £18m turnover local builder in 1999, to a professionally-managed £136m turnover regional construction company with offices across the South of England.

Sacha Romanovitch, chief executive of Grant Thornton UK LLP, said, “the Top Track 250 clearly demonstrates what can be achieved by exciting dynamic businesses.”

She continued, “these companies think locally and act globally, they innovate to grow and embrace an entrepreneurial spirit that this country needs to secure a positive post-Brexit future. We can all learn a lot from the Top Track 250.”

According to Beard, its strong performance in the construction sector reflects the firm’s continued strategic focus on “delivering an outstanding customer experience” in the building projects it undertakes.

Mark Beard said that the result was a “great testimony to the outstanding efforts of our people to make every one of our construction projects a prompt and faultless delivery for every customer.”

He added, “this combined with our strategy of being selective about the projects we take on, and building happy and profitable long-term relationships with our clients and suppliers has been key to business growth and success.”
