Apprenticeship Levy Guide launched ahead of legislative changes

By Anita Jaynes on 18 June, 2016

One of the UK’s leading government-funded training and apprenticeship providers, Positive Outcomes, has launched its Apprenticeship Levy Guide – an aid offering support and essential guidance for businesses that will be affected by the incoming legislative changes.

The Apprenticeship Levy – which comes into force in April 2017 – will affect businesses with an annual wage bill of over £3 million. The UK’s largest businesses will be required, by law, to pay 0.5 percent of their total annual wage bill into a ‘Digital Apprenticeship Service’ account, from which they will be able to spend funds on apprenticeships, training and development.

The introduction of the Levy is part of the government’s plans to tackle the countrywide skills shortage, and its determination to deliver development, which also sees it aim to create 3 million apprenticeships by 2020.

Due to its expertise and experience of apprenticeship funding, Positive Outcomes has introduced a comprehensive guide to support businesses through this change. The Guide offers insight into how apprenticeship programs will change under the new law, the future of Levy payments and aims to keep businesses up-to-date with all relevant information. It also informs businesses as to how to maximise current apprenticeship funding before the new legislation is introduced.

Kelly Ball, the joint managing director of Positive Outcomes, said: “The Apprenticeship Levy is going to have a significant impact on the UK’s largest businesses. We’ve found that, for such a big change, there hasn’t been a great deal of information made available to business owners. April 2017 will soon be upon us – it’s less than a year away. It is important that businesses are prepared, and that they’re aware of what will be expected of them under the new legislation.”

She continued: “Positive Outcomes works with a number of large businesses, in a wide variety of sectors, and our aim is to use our expertise to provide businesses with a plan, whilst also offering advice on the various financial implications of the Levy.”
