Business owners and directors from across Wiltshire gathered at the National Self Build & Renovation Centre in Swindon at the end of October, for the launch of the new Inspire Elite group to support ambitious businesses in the county which are looking to grow and scale up.
The launch also highlighted the opportunity for some of those present to apply for the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses UK programme.
The programme provides high-quality practical education tailored to the needs of business leaders. It offers over 100 hours of teaching designed by leading experts and delivered by the Saïd Business School, the University of Oxford, Aston University and the University of Leeds.
Rob Perks CEO of Inspire said: “We were delighted with the support shown by business owners from across Swindon and Wiltshire who came along to the inaugural event. Through our Inspire Elite brand we can offer access – not only to the Goldman Sachs programme for those who qualify – but also to the best resources available.”
One of the speakers on the day was Mark Lello, managing partner of Wiltshire law firm Parker Bullen. He completed Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses UK earlier this year and described it as transformational.
“We had been planning growth for two years in the business but we just didn’t seem to have the tools to do the job. I heard about the programme and immediately thought it could be just what we needed. The impact on the team was immediate, they noticed a change in me and my attitude to business from the start,” Mark said.
Parker Bullen had plans to increase their turnover from a static positon of about £3.3m per annum but seemed to be unable to make progress beyond £3.5m.
Mark said: “The programme was hard work but it has been transformational and we are now on our way to doubling our turnover over the next five years. The programme has brought about massive change in the business and enabled me and the team to think more boldly, to understand we were missing chances and opportunities far too often and that it’s okay to seek profit without losing a commitment to customer service.”
For Mark the main changes for him personally as managing partner have been the fact he has a growth mind set, he takes a day out each month to focus purely on strategy with the support of this team and he is looking for new leaders all the time.
Inspire Elite will be launching across the South West during 2018 with the next event taking place in Bristol in March next year. Anyone interested in attending this event can register by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or call Julie Smith on 07739 791415.
