Varn is a digital marketing agency based in Bradford on Avon with over 15 years of experience in creating and implementing bespoke digital marketing strategies.  The company offers services to make sure websites and brands perform better online including search engine optimisation, audits, paid search marketing, data analysis, training and website design.

Managing Director Tom Vaughton prides himself in taking on challenges with a mixture of astute problem solving and creative thinking. With years of experience in all things search engine related, he was in the game long before anyone had even heard of Google!

What time do you get up?

7.00am unless I am in London for meetings then a lot earlier.

What helps you to get your day off on the right foot?

Having breakfast with my family and a sunny morning.

What’s the first thing you do when you get to the office?

I look through my plan for the day so I have a clear idea of what to prioritise. I normally get in before the rest of the team so it’s a great time to work on proposals or strategy without getting interrupted.

What helps your day run smoothly?

Making sure I focus on my time management and my plans for the day.  I love an idea so can get easily distracted if I’m not careful and then run away with a hair-brained scheme!

What’s your favourite place to go for lunch?

Our main office is in Bradford on Avon where there are some great places to eat. If I’m eating in then it’s The Weaving Shed, but if I’m heading out with my lunch then I’ll pick up something from Bread & Butter.

What is the best part about your job?

Ideas and people.  I love putting together marketing strategies and creative ideas for clients but I also love working with the team at Varn.  We do work hard but we also have fun at the same time.

How do you set yourself up for the following day?

I try and get through my to-do list and then re-schedule any tasks I haven’t completed ready for the next day.

How do you unwind after work?

I cycle home most of the time which helps to clear my mind after a busy day. When I get home, playing games with the kids or heading into our woods with the family to chop some wood or build a den is always a great distraction.

If you could give one bit of business advice what would it be?

Don’t burn any bridges and don’t be too proud to fail and move on or try again.
