Chippenham-based recruitment consultants 24-7 Staffing, has handed over a cheque for £4,000 to a young cancer sufferer, after joining forces to fundraise for him.
The team dreamed up a number of ways to raise funds, all in aid of supporting Daniel Weir, whose Mum, Jo, is the company’s Quality Manager.
Daniel, 17, a Lackham College student from Chippenham, has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, called Ewing Sarcoma. He is undergoing extensive treatment, often spending lengthy periods of time in hospital.
Among the events staged by the independent recruiter was a climb up Snowdon, where the team tackled rain and gales; one of the team dyed his hair purple; and others became teetotal for a month.
Julian Thompson, Managing Director of 24-7 Staffing, said they had been eager to support Daniel and his family.
He explained, “Jo is a loyal and long-serving member of staff and I’ve known Dan since he was a little boy when Jo first started working for us all those years ago.
“It’s been an absolute pleasure to support the family during this difficult time and it’s really pulled the team here closer together. We look forward to supporting them in the future.”
Daniel and his family plan to use the money to create memorable experiences together, along with his older brother Harvey. They are also being supported by the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Jo said, “We have been overwhelmed by the support and generosity of so many people whose hearts have been touched by Dan’s situation, not least my wonderful work family whose kindness and team spirit meant they felt compelled to do something to help. The money raised will give us the chance to enjoy some fun moments and make some great family memories, which means the world to us all, so we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has given us this opportunity.”
