22 for ’22: Celebrating Swindon & Wiltshire’s Most Inspiring Women

By Anita Jaynes on 31 March, 2022

We’re celebrating Swindon and Wiltshire’s most inspiring women to mark International Women’s Day 2022 which this year took place on Tuesday 8th March.

Through our social media channels, we asked our readers which women in our community inspire them and created a list of 22 for ’22. The list is printed in our Feb/March magazine and from Tuesday 1st March, each weekday throughout the month we are profiling and championing each of these fantastic women online and via our social feeds.

Today we put the spotlight on Shirley Ludford, Station Manager at Swindon 105.5 radio station.

Shirley is a former local BBC, GWR & Cable TV presenter and producer. She is now the Station Manager at SWINDON 105.5 which she joined prior to its launch in 2006, leading the station’s application for its Ofcom licence to broadcast.

Awarded the High Sheriff of Wiltshire Award in 2014 for dedication and long service to the community, Shirley is also a Deputy Lieutenant of Wiltshire.

Alongside her work at Swindon 105.5, Shirley is also President of Swindon Male Voice Choir, Patron of Swindon’s Commonweal School and Patron of the town’s Dorcan Performing Arts.
