Recruit, Reward, Retain with Goughs and Fidelius

By Ben Carey on 8 May, 2024

An employment law and employee benefits seminar with Goughs Solicitors in partnership with the Fidelius Group will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Bath on Monday 10th June

We asked Goughs Partner and Head of Employment, Rebecca Dennis, to give us the background on the the event.

What is the purpose of the Recruit, Retain, Reward Masterclass?

Goughs and Fidelius are working together to inform and educate our audience so that they are absolutely up-to-date with good employee relations from the point of recruitment and reward. The aim is that attendees will leave the seminar with improved recruitment policies and good ideas to retain the right staff in the right roles and of course, most importantly to ensure retention of talent by ensuring that staff are rewarded properly.

You are working in conjunction with Fidelius for this event, why is that?

There is a long established and successful working history between Goughs and Fidelius.  We both work with similar business clients and suppliers across diverse sectors including leisure and entertainment, land development and agriculture. Our clients’ welcome the expertise on offer and of course, enjoy the benefits of a joint network of professionals and suppliers in Bath and the surrounding areas.

What is your task as Head of Employment at Goughs?

The message that I will be delivering in terms of employment law is that the legal burden on employers today is high and the obligations are significant. This means that the capacity for mistake and error is necessarily co-existent. My job is to simplify the present legal landscape and to make the guests at our event understand risks and best practice to ensure sound employee relations, to secure a stable workforce and most importantly to be able to offer valuable career development to their employees.

What will Fidelius be speaking about?

Valuable and meaningful careers in 2024 really does mean structured and widely available benefits. Steph Culpin will be discussing the scope of the benefits that can be offered and that will include everything from choosing which pension is best, to enhanced maternity pay, death in service, salary sacrifice schemes, company cars, and other benefits packages and the new technology that allows those benefits to be accessed by employees.

Who is the talk aimed at?

The audience comprises business owners, business managers and personnel from finance and HR departments. It will be a hugely useful morning and I am sure that will benefit everyone. Tickets are selling fast!

Tell us a bit about your background and expertise.

I started working as lawyer in 1993! The first 20 years as a barrister providing legal advice, drafting and advocacy for my clients and more recently I provided specialist trouble-shooting services on employment law and employee relations at a leading international HR outsourcing company before moving to Goughs and becoming a partner. I have been recommended as a leading professional in the field by the prestigious Chambers & Partners legal directory, so it’s fair to say I know a thing or two in this area!

Where can people get tickets?

Tickets are available on Eventbrite and from Goughs and Fidelius. The event will take place between 8.45am and 11.45am on Monday the 10th of June at the Hilton in Bath with a Q&A follow up by Teams on Friday the 14th June to provide a free and practical feedback session for attendees. We hope to see you there!
