AM to PM with David Bolton

By Anita Jaynes on August 08, 2016

To celebrate The Business Exchange Swindon & Wiltshire’s third birthday, over the next month we’re profiling the team behind our magazine and its online offering.

This week we profile David Bolton, owner of Corsham-based, Tain Brae Digital. David is TBE’s CRM and social media manager.

David set up Tain Brae Digital after years of international sales and marketing experience for technology and software companies.  Alongside this, David has also run a news portal in France generating income from media sales and some successful e-commerce and transactional sites over the last ten years.

David found while running his companies; there was no simple offering for SMEs in navigating digital marketing and how it actually could generate sales. David set up Tain Brae Digital, an inbound digital marketing agency for SMEs, to deliver the solutions required cost efficiently.

Tain Brae Digital offers a range of services to help businesses grow by converting visitors into leads. These services include website design, search engine optimisation, content marketing, social media, marketing automation, email marketing, lead nurturing, landing page design and web analytics.

What time does your alarm go off?
During the week, my alarm goes off at 6.30, mainly to check that my son has got up to do his paper round. I rise a lot later at weekends!

What’s the first thing you do?
Tune into Nicky Campbell’s Radio 5 Live show to catch up on current affairs. I then switch myself into Barista mode and drink the product of my endeavours in bed, while speed reading social media updates on my mobile.

What do you do for lunch?
As I primarily work at my home office, lunch is served by my ‘better’ half, whenever she deems I should be hungry! Although when I have meetings in Bath I love eating at Loch Fyne!

What do you love most about your job?
They say ‘variety is the spice of life’ and that certainly rings true with my client portfolio. The majority of my clients are local, which allows me to meet them directly, and I never cease to be amazed by the breadth of industries which operate in such proximity to Corsham. For example, my clients include, an international horse photographer, financial advisors, recruitment agencies, business centres, an energy company,  lawyers and various online e-commerce sites.

What’s the worst part of the job?
As digital marketing is an ever-evolving industry, I need to set aside time each week to keep up-to-date with developments, though as I enjoy learning new things, it’s not too much of a hardship!

What executive tool/ gadget could you not live without?
Apart from my phone, some software tools include Slack and Asana. These tools bring all your communication together in one place and help teams track their work.

What do you do after work?
I am a Community First Responder (CFR) for South West Ambulance Service and make myself available most days. I have responded for over three years and enjoy being a responder as feel it makes a real difference to the local community as well as getting me away from the computer! I attend particular types of medical emergencies where it is essential for the patient to receive immediate life-saving care. However, most of the time it just to give some reassurance before the ambulance arrives.

If you changed direction, what would be your Plan B?
Travel the World – I got a taste for this while in the Royal Navy when I visit the far east, but would do it in a much more luxurious style.
