The Business Exchange is proud to support the 2021 International Women’s Day #ChooseToChallenge campaign. This year we’ve reached out to the women in our business community to hear their experiences of being a woman in business, why International Women’s Day is important to them and what they #ChooseToChallenge.

I #ChooseToChallenge gender inequality.
Why is International Women’s Day important to you?
gives me a chance to proudly reflect on how times have changed whilst reminding
me of what is still yet to be achieved.
What do we still need to do for gender equality?
We need to recognise that not every culture has
developed at the same pace we have and that there is still a long way to go for
some. We need to help those women who still have to fight for their rights to
be heard on a day-to-day basis. Let’s help them find their voice.
What did you want to be when you were young? Have you ended up
doing what you always wanted to? Has being a woman held you
I really wanted to be a journalist! I was
lucky enough to carry out work experience at the local newspaper which had an
equal mix of men and women. Journalism wasn’t right for me in the end but I
have stayed within media throughout my career to date. Choosing to have a
family has most definitely slowed my career down as you can’t be everything to
everyone with a young family. Now that they are growing up I can put the time
and focus back into work to develop myself further.
What is your advice to your younger self and what are your tips to
nurture the strong independent girls of the future?
My advice is to believe in yourself!
Being the mother of a very strong natured and
confident 7-year-old, I am forever conscious of the way I behave and the
example this then sets for her. Adina copies everything I do so it’s up to me
to ensure she sees how hard work, good work ethics and being kind can bring
rewards whatever gender you are!
One of her favourite books is Fantastically
Great Women Who Changed the World – a great read for young girls to learn
about amazing women who have helped us get where we are today.
