New for 2016, every Tuesday we delve into the day-to-day diary of a member of the local business community.
For our first instalment we met with Chris Lennon, head of office for the regional headquarters of Lockton Companies LLP, based on North Quay, Temple Back, Bristol. Chris works with companies across the West Country helping them protect their people, property and reputation.
What time does your alarm go off?
What’s the first thing you do?
Shower and dress. Breakfast is usually porridge and a juice, then a Nespresso coffee in the car on the way to work. Before I leave the house I check emails and messages and when I get to work I check the trade press websites and various social media updates.
What do you do for lunch?
If not a business lunch or something on the hop, then a sandwich or sushi and usually a coffee from either Citi Deli or Friska in Bristol.
What do you love most about your job?
Dealing with a wide variety of people and advising on a range of risk factors across a diverse spectrum of interesting businesses.
What’s the worst part of the job?
Whilst necessary and crucial to ensure that we treat customers fairly, we have a robust system of checks and control that can be quite time consuming.
What executive tool/ gadget could you not live without?
Windows phone – The ability to check spreadsheets and automated system reports from the comfort of my sofa in the evening or when on trains/planes is a God send I couldn’t do without.
What do you do after work?
I try to make it home for the children’s bed time, so after the commute I usually get jumped on by my kids and after settling them down read them a bed time story.
If you changed direction, what would be your Plan B?
Once upon a time I would have upped sticks and set up a surfing and wild swimming training camp, but now I would more likely become a Risk Manager in industry – probably (hopefully) aviation or energy.
