500 new jobs at Honda Swindon as company ventures into the American market

Honda is to create up to 500 new jobs over the next few months to build cars for the American market.

Honda will hire 150 people to work on their production line between now and Christmas, and recruit another 350 by next year as the firm invests £200 million into its production of the five-door Honda Civic model for the US market.

All the new staff will be hired by Honda, rather than as agency workers, but will be given just a two-year contract, rather than as permanent staff.

Honda is preparing to enter the American market for the first time, and named Swindon as the base for its five-door Civic production.
