AM to PM gives you a glimpse at the daily routine of some of our business community’s top professionals.
Dominic Bourquin is Head of Tax Consultancy and Corporate Finance at Monahans, one of the South West’s leading business and accountancy advisory firms.
From helping clients to save on their tax bills to dreams of becoming a fighter pilot, Dominic gives us a taste of his working life from AM to PM.
What time does your alarm go off?
Usually around 6am, although with the children it can be a lot earlier some mornings.
What’s the most important part of your morning routine?
That first cup of tea, there’s nothing quite like it.
What do you do during your lunch break?
If I’m in the office, it’s usually a salad of some sort, no doubt supplemented by the odd chocolate biscuit during the day. I know that is not good, so don’t tell anyone!
What do you love most about your job?
Helping clients get the most out of their businesses they’ve worked hard to build, saving them tax and working to support their ambitions.
What’s the worst part of the job?
The admin and the timesheets, I swear it gets worse as the years go by!
What gadget or app could you not live without?
My phone – it’s got everything on there, not least where I need to be next!
What do you do after work?
Look after my two young sons, enjoy (or not, given recent form…) Bath Rugby, Arsenal Football Club, good food, good wine, and good company!
If you changed direction, what would be your Plan B?
A fighter pilot, although I’d need new eyes for that, so perhaps a rugby or football correspondent. Getting paid to watch games you love – what could possibly go wrong?
